As part of its efforts to become fully Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, Starknet is set to launch a new testnet zkEVM in August. The new funding from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Ledger co-founder Nicholas Bacca and Starkware will help the Kakarot team achieve this goal. Currently, Starknet uses its own native language, Cairo, which makes it easier and faster to develop, review and maintain new code but is not EVM compatible. The zkEVM will allow developers to write in any EVM-compatible language on Starknet, making it more accessible to developers who prefer to use Solidity or other EVM-compatible languages. The testnet version of Kakarot is set to launch for public use in August.
