Monero Community Wallet Suffers Total Fund Loss in Attack

A security breach has occurred in Monero’s community crowdfunding wallet, resulting in the loss of 2,675.73 XMR, worth nearly $460,000. The cause and source of the breach remain unidentified. The incident took place on September 1, but was only disclosed on GitHub on November 2 by Monero developer Luigi. The CCS wallet, used for funding development proposals, was drained in nine transactions. Monero’s core team is calling for the General Fund to cover its current liabilities. The breach could potentially be related to ongoing attacks since April, and it is speculated that the wallet keys may have been available online on the Ubuntu server. Only two individuals, Luigi and Monero developer Ricardo “Fluffypony” Spagni, had access to the wallet seed phrase.
