What are Zaps and how can you get Free Bitcoin through their experiment?

Canadian Bitcoin advocate, Michael Degroot, has been giving out free Bitcoin tips, or Zaps, to people around the world as part of a social media experiment. Using the Orange Pill App, which connects Bitcoin users globally, Degroot has Zapped 600 people with 300 satoshis ($0.09) each. The Zaps are made possible through the layer-2 Lightning Network, which allows for peer-to-peer transfers of small amounts of Bitcoin. This method eliminates the need for intermediaries and high fees associated with traditional money remitters. The Zap trend has gained popularity on platforms like Nostr, where users can send and receive Bitcoin tips. The act of Zapping is seen as a way to contribute to the Bitcoin community and promote the use of the Lightning Network. Despite some challenges, such as Apple’s delisting of Damus from the App Store, the Zap trend continues to grow. Degroot hopes to Zap every user on the Orange Pill App and encourages others to join in the movement.
